This year, The Oncology Nurse invited me to share my perspective as a cancer survivor and an advocate by writing a regular column for their publication. I gratefully and eagerly accepted the opportunity to be a voice for those impacted by cancer. The column is called “Empowering Patients and Survivors” and my goal is just that. The audience “oncology nurses” – are the ones who are most often at the frontline in patient care. I hope to provide them patient perspectives from diagnosis through treatment and beyond in order to help them to best serve and meet the needs of their patients. In December’s issue, I discussed the cancer patient’s Thrust Into Vulnerabilty. You can find that article on page 12 of TON – December 2013 Vol 6 No 11.
I hope to share my own experience as well as other cancer survivor perspectives in my columns. To help me to better voice our collective experiences and topics of concern, I have created a focus group including male and female cancer survivors of all ages and cancer types. If you are a cancer survivor who would like to inject your voice into the discussion about empowering patients and survivors, contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org Or fill out this form.
