Breast reconstruction surgery is when one or both breast have been removed because of cancerous tissue in the mound area. Post mastecomy involves rebuilding the mound similiar to original size and shape of the patients breast(s). As a women, Dr. Alissa Shulman understands the emotional need of feeling whole again as a female and the return back to normalcy is very welcomed.
In a traditional mastectomy, surgeons remove the entire breast – breast tissue, some skin, nipple and areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple). The Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy offers a safe and more natural option for women with certain breast cancers or if you have a higher risk of breast cancer (Angelina Jolie). The nipple-sparing approach removes the patients underlying breast tissue but preserves the nipple-areola complex and all of the breast skin. The scar is hidden beneath the breast! For more information please contact Dr. Alissa Shulman for more about nipple-sparing mastectomy.
